Choose Implants for Breast Enhancement and Enlargement

Exceptional, long-lasting breast augmentation for New Jersey patients can be achieved when a surgeon is willing to invest the time and training to develop an advanced breast augmentation practice. By adhering to sound principles, the surgeon will be able to better educate the patient, provide more predictable aesthetic results, and achieve much lower implant revision rates.

As a principal investigator, Dr. Caroline Glicksman is also one of only a handful of surgeons in the United States who has extensive experience with shaped highly cohesive gel implants, as well as round, silicone gel breast implants for breast augmentation.

Breast Augmentation Details

A consultation for breast augmentation or a revision augmentation is the lengthiest for any procedure in Dr. Glicksman’s practice. It takes time to educate patients before surgery and help them to choose an appropriate breast implant that will produce an optimal outcome. Often, patients have had consultations with other plastic surgeons or have had friends undergo surgery, yet still do not understand the most important fundamental principles. Breast augmentation involves the following key steps:

Pre-Operative Education

Patients are provided with an overview of the history and development of both saline and silicone implants since the late 1960s. Considerable time is spent discussing the advances in breast augmentation made over the last several decades, including the evolution in silicone gel technology and implant shells. Dr. Glicksman has been using shaped highly cohesive gel implants since 2004 and has experience using these implants for breast augmentations, revision augmentations, and breast reconstruction. Most importantly, patients are informed that the choices made pre-operatively will affect the quality and longevity of their results. The addition of the Vectra 3D imaging and simulation during your consultation further enhances your patient education experience by helping you visualize what you may look like after surgery.

Pre-Operative Measurements

Key measurements will help determine which implant is best suited for your individual anatomy. Implant size, style, and fill will be selected based on your measurements and skin elasticity, not solely upon your desired change in cup size.

Using biodimensional tissue planning principles, Dr. Glicksman will begin the implant selection process. In addition, the placement of the implant, either behind the breast gland or partially behind the muscle (dual-plane), will be discussed, as will the benefits or tradeoffs associated with each location. Vectra 3D imaging can provide breast augmentation patients with more confidence in their decisions and a better understanding of the importance of careful pre-operative measurements. Patients are educated about their need to reconcile their desires within the limitations of their individual anatomy to achieve long-lasting results.

Meticulous Breast Augmentation Surgery

The surgical experience is extremely important. Breast augmentation surgery takes approximately one hour and should be almost completely bloodless. Anesthesia, provided by a board-certified anesthesiologist, includes the use of short-acting muscle relaxants that help minimize trauma to muscle and the chest wall. All surgeries are performed at Dr. Glicksman’s fully accredited surgery center in Manalapan, NJ. Patients remain in the recovery room until awake and stable. Most patients leave the center sore, but comfortable, without the need for narcotics or pain pumps. Patients usually return to everyday activities within 24 to 48 hours, and can resume moderate exercise at two weeks.

Every Patient. Every Visit.

Dr. Glicksman is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has been committed to delivering expert, state-of-the-art care for her patients for over 25 years. The doctor performs all of her own consultations, procedures, and treatments and does not use “practice extenders” to care for her patients.

Follow-Up Care for the Life of Your Implant

All of Dr. Glicksman’s breast implant patients will be scheduled for routine follow-up exams for as long as they have breast implants. Radiological studies may be ordered over the years to add to clinical observations and to evaluate the integrity of the implant as the years go by. Eventually, all breast implants will have to be replaced, due to age related breast changes, pregnancies, breast feeding, weight gains or losses, and eventually menopause. Dr. Glicksman follows all of her breast augmentation patients through these life-changing events, and eventually helps to guide them when they need to undergo a revision. This long-term follow-up requires the combined efforts of the physician, the office staff, and the patient’s commitment to good breast health.

breast lift is not an enhancement or enlargement, but raises the breasts higher on the chest to give them more projection.
