Breast Augmentation in New Jersey

With the guidance of some extremely gifted and talented breast augmentation surgeons in the United States and Sweden over the last 21 years, my NJ breast augmentation practice has evolved to produce such outcomes. For the last 25 years, breast implants and techniques have evolved, and yet, the most recent FDA Premarket Approval (PMA) data showed that almost a quarter of women who undergo breast augmentation in the United States will require revision surgery within the first three years.
One of my major objectives as a breast augmentation surgeon has been to dramatically reduce the number of women who will develop a breast implant complication or undergo an unnecessary size change. I have achieved this goal.

Consultation for breast augmentation is the lengthiest for any procedure in my practice. It takes time to educate patients before surgery, and help them to choose an appropriate breast implant that will produce an optimal outcome. Often patients have had consultations with other plastic surgeons or have had friends undergo an augmentation and still don’t understand the most important fundamental principles. Breast augmentation involves the following key steps:

  • Pre-operative education: Patients are provided with an overview of the history of both saline and silicone implants. Considerable time is spent discussing the advances made over the last several decades, including the evolution in silicone gel technology and implant shells. Dr. Glicksman has been using shaped highly cohesive gel implants for over 8 years and is one of the few truly experienced surgeons in the country. Most importantly, patients are informed that the choices made pre-operatively will affect the quality and longevity of their results. The addition of the Vectra 3-D breast imaging and simulation during your consultation further enhances patient education by helping you visualize what you may look like after breast augmentation.
  • Pre-operative measurements: Key measurements will help determine which implant is best suited for your individual anatomy. Implant size, style and fill will be selected based on your measurements and skin elasticity, not solely upon your desired change in cup size. In addition, the placement of the implant, either behind the breast gland or partially behind the muscle, will be discussed, as well as the benefits or tradeoffs associated with each location. 3-D imaging can provide a patient with more confidence in their decisions and a better understanding of the importance of careful pre-operative measurements. Patients are educated about their need to reconcile their desires within the limitations of their individual anatomy to achieve long- lasting results.
  • Meticulous surgery: The surgical experience is extremely important. Breast augmentation surgery takes approximately one hour and should be almost completely bloodless. Anesthesia, provided by a board certified anesthesiologist, includes the use of short acting muscle relaxants which help minimize trauma to muscle and the chest wall. My fully accredited surgery center is staffed by a team of RN’s. Patients remain in the recovery room until awake and stable. Most will leave the center sore, but comfortable, without the need for narcotics or pain pumps. Patients usually return to everyday activities within 24 to 48 hours, and can resume moderate exercise at two weeks.
  • Follow-up care for the life of your implant: All of my implant patients are invited to participate in one of several long-term breast implant studies. This applies to implants that have already been approved by the FDA, as it is only through long-term follow-up that surgeons continue to care for their patients as the implants age. This guarantees that all  patients will be scheduled for routine follow-up exams for as long as they have breast implants. Radiological studies may be ordered over the years to add to clinical observations and to evaluate the integrity of the implant as the years go by. Long-term follow-up requires the combined efforts of the physician, the office staff, and the patient’s commitment to good breast health.
