Excess skin and fat in the upper and lower eyelids add considerable years to a person’s appearance. This cannot be corrected with creams or lasers. A blepharoplasty is one of the first surgical procedures that I may recommend to my patients who desire facial rejuvenation. It is one of the few procedures that when done well, lasts for many years.
This surgical procedure is performed under sedation or general anesthesia at the Center for Special Surgery. Incisions in the upper eyelid are placed within the lid crease, and just below the lashes along the lower eyelid. All patients have some degree of postoperative bruising, but this fades quickly. Sutures are usually removed by day six, and most patients return to work or social activities within a week to 10 days.
